Avila

Yeah, another day trip from Madrid. Avila is known for being the birth place of Santa Teresa, and also for being a walled city. There wasn't as much to do there as there is in a place like Toledo, but I still got some interesting photos.

The Cathedral in Avila, not quite as spectacular as some cities I've been to, but still beautiful.

This was taken from the walls of the city, it's a side shot of the Cathedral with the cool 'sun fingers'

This is the inside of the Cathedral but I *never* took this picture ;)

Convento de Santa Teresa, built on the site where she was born. A side chapel is built on the site of the room where she was born.

I'm being lazy and not putting this photo separately. But this is the Cross from El Valle de los Caidos as seen from the highway to Avila.

Most of the streets inside the old city are cobbled and very narrow. Some barely had room for a car!

Puerta de San Vincente, one of the many gates in the walls to get into the old walled city.

This is taken on the road from the bus station as you walk toward the old city.

Another shot of the walls, this is from inside the old city.

From the top of the walls, I just loved how the walls cast the shadows on the snow.

Again, from the walls but this one is looking over the old city to the far walls.

This 'corner' of the walls was quite spectacular, very castle-like. It was also as far as I walked before my knees said enough.
