The Coach Class post on credit cards and air miles together with two related posts from Upgrade:Travel Better got me thinking…

Currently my banks:

~40K on AA (yeah, I flew a lot this summer!) – this also includes miles posted from my AA World Mastercard

~36K on NWA – old miles. I had an NWA Visa for some time and the miles to and from Japan really stacked up. I rarely fly NWA these days and just burned 35K for a trans-con (FT sin, I know!). I’ll probably just let these dwindle

~13K on CO – 9K that had somehow never expired since I don’t remember the last time I flew and credited to CO (May I flew to ROC but I credited to NWA) plus ~4K from the Vegas trip

Miscellaneous miles on SQ (maybe ~6K unexpired), BA (1700 useless from this summer) and Frontier (3K from a summer 2006 flight from LAX-LGA).

Lost miles:

13K on AA that I’m still deciding whether to re-activate. I don’t really think it’s worth it. Then again, it would put me over the 50K barrier for int’l flights and I’ve spent $130 on a lot worse things lately.

Unrecoverable expired miles on SQ

Flight from KIX – YVR- JFK and return in February 2006. Due to the booking class they weren’t eligible for mileage accrual when I tried to credit to SQ and because I wasn’t a member of Air Canada I couldn’t credit them there. Losing those miles hurt. Oddly enough, when I bought aticket from the same agent in Osaka for my flight home in June 2006 on KE, I had no trouble crediting the miles to NWA so they must purchase in varying buckets.

Flight from LAX-NAD-SYD in November/December 2004. I didn’t submit the boarding pass quickly enough to AA. This would have kept the aforementioned 13K from expiring as well.

My name is Cari and I’m a miles junkie…

VirginAmerica, with whom I’m flying at New Year’s, has a different type of program in eleVAte and it will be interesting to see what develops there. In the mean time, more miles.
