Madrid

How long did I promise to update the other Madrid page with thumbnails? Since I got home? Yeah, more or less. Well that never happened, but as I started to look at the photos I took today, I just ended up going through all the photos of Madrid and now they're all here in my standard format. This page is a bit long as a result and the pictures aren't sorted at all, but I have tried to note, or you can tell from the weather, which trip they're from. Hint: I only took Madrid photos on my last day of this trip and it was a grey day.

For pictures from the rest of Spain, this be the place.

Looking towards the Puerta de Alcala as the sun set.

I just love street signs in Spain, they are so unobtrusive. This particular one is on the fence of Retiro.

The main reason for taking this photo is that I had taken the same one in 96, but it's also of interest as its the Spanish version of All Roads...

Another, wow, same photo picture. This is the photo of Travelling Man in Atocha Station.

The waiting room (sala de espera) in Atocha, it's beautiful but quite warm as it's Green House.

I swear there is one of these in every city! I have a photo of a woman along the Vlatva in Prague, and then there was the woman in Himeji.

The Botanical Gardens are behind the Statue and the Prado was behind me when I took this photo.

One of the views of Madrid from Metro: Buenos Aires. Does it really need more of an explanation?

From the same place as the previous picture, just looking further north.

A random Church (Spain is full of these) on Calle de Alcala heading towards Ventas along Retiro's west (I think) side.

Looking from one of the 'doorways' of Plaza Mayor down Calle de Toledo.

Catedral de Santa Maria...one of my favourite sites in the city.

Pales in comparison to the previous picture, but I thought it looked quite cool in the mist. That's Puente de Segovia in the foreground.

Same as the previous, just zoomed and with the palace lopped off in the process.

I really like this shot, even if they did maim the poor trees.

This is the same Cathedral (gee, can you tell I like it!) taken from the Plaza de Espana.

 Palacio de Comunicaciones at Cibeles.

I was so glad that they'd repaired the fountain at Cibeles before I left in November.

Standing in front of the Palacio de Communicaciones looking up c/Alcala towards Sol.

Plaza de Colon with a huge Spanish flag.

Same Plaza de Colon, but I like how the fountains looked in the light.

The Don Quijote statue at Plaza de Espana.

On c/ Alcala, I just liked the horses, I have no idea what the building is.

The bull at Hard Rock Cafe Madrid. Periodically, it spits smoke.

Of course, can't visit a city and not visit the Hard Rock Cafe.

 Independence Gate of Retiro Park.

The jardines at the Palacio Real.

Dedicated to those who have given their lives for Spain. This is at the Plaza de Lealtad along Paseo del Prado.

Is there any way I could have eaten meat in Spain after seeing this?

Ministerio de Agricultura along side Atocha.

El Palacio Real, don't think it needs more explanation than that.

I just loved the lamps at the Palacio. And yes, that is zoomed.

The Palacio from the steps of the Cathedral. Not the best photo in dusk, but I like it.

Palacio de Communicaciones at Cibeles with the trees.

A random fountain along Paseo del Prado.

A very shadowy Plaza Mayor, still another of my favourite sites in Madrid.

Also Plaza Mayor, mega zoomed and looking up.

Museo del Prado, Madrid's original art museum. I still haven't made it to Reina Sofia.

When I saw this line I was so glad I'd been to the Prado the week before when the line was about two people.

The Puente de Toledo, one of the crossings of Madrid's pathetic excuse for a river.

The back of Puerta de Atocha, from in front of Retiro.

Me, on my six hour walk around Madrid after the first week of classes.

Puerta de Toledo, on c/ Toledo down from Plaza Mayor. I really like these city 'doors'

Yep, another gateway, but this one is to Retiro.

Looking out across Retiro to the Caison de Buen Retiro and then the Prado.

Yes, that sign really does say riviera and it's on Madrid's pathetic excuse for a river,

In the heart of Puerta del Sol, the statue is a good meeting place.

Looking west across Puerta del Sol at sunset.

One of the 'statues' that seem to be everywhere. I'd never seen one before Madrid and then saw some in Prague and Vienna.

The Plaza de Toros at Ventas. I had to go see it, even though I'd never watch a fight.

There, 50 photos later, I'm DONE! That took forever.
