Random Osaka

OK, this page will be the repository for those that don't have their own category or are just random ;) From now on I will include the date when the page was last modified :) Last Updated 26 August 2002 with HRC and the Harbour

If you look closely at the right side of the pizza you will see what appears to be cellophane and you're right--the pizza is shrinkwrapped. Each pizza in the package comes individually wrapped. I swear one day I will come back to Japan and Nuggets from McDs will come individually wrapped.

One of the things Osaka probably wishes it wasn't known for, it's Love Hotels. They are easily recognisable by their umm...tackiness?

The beautiful view from the teacher's room at work, another great example of why Osaka is nothing but a concrete jungle.

I have now been in Japan for 362 days. Obviously this doesn't include vacations but the general ideas is the same--that it's been nearly a year since I arrived in the Land of Sushi. So I decided that I was feeling brave and it was finally time to try sushi. So we went to all all you can eat sushi restaurant in Namba, and here's the results :)

I look hideous--but look at the chopsticks, not me :)

 It's in :)

Just in case anyone was wondering how you get served at an all you can eat sushi place, here's your answer. It comes around on a large conveyor belt (everyone sits at a counter) and you take plates of whatever you'd like.

I tried sushi, but there is no amount of money that would get me to eat that! It stayed on the conveyor belt.

That's what the counter top looked like when Rebecca and I were through. :) Obviously since I wrote this, you know I survived ;) And I have to admit that it was pretty good. Would I eat it everyday? No, but I do enjoy it.

After the sushi experience, we decided to partake in the Japanese National Pasttime. No, not drinking, but go to shopping of course ;) We hit Shinsaibashi-suji, Tokyu Hands (think 9 Floors of JoAnn, ETC for those of you in the US), the Loft, Sony Plaze (mega import shop with above all things, food! Japanese stores will pretty much put a price tag on anything and whack it on the shelf knowing that someone, usually a gaijin will buy it. This is one of those amusing things that I found. WARNING: NOT appropriate for children or work but still a good laugh for most of us.

I sense a similarity with the previous random Osaka page; the most recent update of both is a trip to the Harbour :) These photos are from 20 August 2002 when we took a trip down to Tempouzan again and then went to dinner.

A massive cruise boat anchored at the Port of Osaka--behind Tempouzan--with the obligatory tour groups.

A mascot of sorts for the ship--and of course we needed a picture with it.

The same ship--I like the view with the bridge in the background.

No way in hell am I going on that thing!

What's a day out without some Engrish? As for what this sign means, I have no idea.

The one HRC I didn't have a photo of was the one I'd been to four times. The car's license plate says 'God Is My CoPilot'
