Fuji-san

Tokyo

OK, not the best of all updates, but something to keep everyone happy for a bit :) These are not from one place but a random collection from some of this summer's travels. They aren't in any real order mainly because I keep adding more as the mood hits me. The Buffalos Game, Sayonara Party and Shinsaibashi have their own pages.

Big thanks to Rebecca for some of these photos :)

Updated 26 August 2002 with photos from Irish Rebecca's BBQ

A woman in Kyoto in traditional dress i.e Kimono and all--in 35/95 (C/F) degree heat

Japanese Maples on the grounds of Nijo-jo in Kyoto--never seen anything like this in NY ;)

Fujiyama at FujiQ Highland Park, near Fuji-san. Fujiyama is the world's highest rollar coaster.

Ginza-Dori, think 5th Avenue/Rodeo Drive with more Japanese People

Torii at Meiji Shrine--no, there's nothing wrong with the photo--it was pissing down with rain that day.

One photo from Disney Sea in Tokyo. Its a lot of fun and unlike at Tokyo Disney, you don't end up puking Mickey.

The view from Tokyo Tower which looks quite similar to the view from the Umeda Sky Building. Tokyo, however, is a nicer concrete jungle.

Hmm..telling the Japanese not to act like animals? The question is do they ever listen? The answer--if it's not obvious--no!

OK, Ive relented under pressure. Here are some more photos, including some from when I see-ed the Fuji-san.

These fountains are part of Koraku-en Amusement Park and in the background you can see Tokyo Dome, aka the Big Egg

I love the contrast in this one between the lake, blue sky (!) and of course the Fuji-san

The super fast coaster at FujiQ Highland Park with Fuji-san playing peek-a-boo

I swear this photo that Rebecca took has not been tinkered with one iota. Fuji-san's sunset and ensuing twilight was just amazing

We had our choice of restaurants in Roppongi and this time HRC lost out. Tony Roma's has REAL FOOD!

Another crazy sign. This one was at Mishima Station where we caught the shinkansen. And no, you're not seeing things, it really is Legos.

The train station in Kawaguchiko. Really shows the difference between small town and big city when you look at some of the stations serving Osaka/Kyoto/etc

One of such stations--this is a shot of JR Kyoto which serves not only local JR but also the subway and the shinkansen. The architecture is really funky and I have to wonder how it will hold up if the Big One hits.

Well I had posted the view from Tokyo Tower, now you can see the view of Tokyo Tower.

Zojo-ji as seen from the Tokyo Tower  Observation Deck

Zojo-ji again, this time from an overpass. Note how Tokyo's CBD rises in the background.

Some people are lucky enough to have an apartment with roof access and a wading pool outside of Osaka City, proper. Luckily these people are also nice enough to host BBQs so that we can all relax on a relatively cool summer day. These are from Irish Rebecca's August BBQ on 21 August 2002.

Ann and I--Im sure 20 years from now I'll appreciate looking younger but right now I hate it when I look twelve.

Cheers! (Or hurry up and take the picture--the steak is burning my fingers!)

The 'gang' on the roof for the BBQ

 Wahh! I want a pool too :)
